Frequently Asked Questions

What is counselling and how can it help?

Ripples in water signifying the ripple effect of therapy

Counselling is a form of talking therapy that provides a safe, confidential space for you to share your thoughts, feelings and challenges free from judgement. Counselling is not giving advice. It's a place where you can be your whole self, truly seen and heard with empathy and support as you explore and process your experiences and emotions.  Counselling can help you explore issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship problems, stress, low self-esteem, identity and behaviour patterns in a supported therapeutic relationship.

Through the process of talking, counselling can help you:

  • Gain clarity over your situation

  • Increase self-awareness and a deeper understanding of self

  • Develop healthier coping mechanisms

  • Increase your emotional and mental wellbeing

  • Identify patterns of behaviours

  • Process emotions

What can I expect in the first counselling session?

There are some practicalities to cover in the first session such as talking through the counselling agreement, confidentiality and a contact details form. You can ask any questions you may have, discuss what's brought you to therapy and your expectations of what you're hoping to get out of it.  Overall, the first session is a really good opportunity for us to get to know each other, to see how you feel in the space and decide whether we'll be a good fit to work together. From here, you can decide whether you want to proceed ahead with future sessions without pressure.
